21 people were killed in a massive fire that broke out in a building in the Gaza Strip on Thursday night

 

Gaza, Thursday, November 17, 2022 A massive fire broke out tonight in a residential building in the Jabaliya refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, killing 21 people and injuring many others, according to local sources. Women and children are also among the dead.

The fire had spread to the entire building, due to which the death toll could rise further.

The WAFA correspondent said that all casualties of the fire were evacuated from the building, and taken to a nearby hospital, the Indonesian Public Hospital.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a large amount of benzene was stored inside the apartment, which caused the fire and a large number of people got burnt.

Everyone is heartbroken by the tragedy, and President Mahmoud Abbas announced a day of mourning  Friday, during which flags at all government institutions will fly at half-mast.

He described the incident as a national calamity, and ordered all concerned authorities to do everything possible to help the families of the victims and alleviate their suffering.
