Karachi: A woman was arrested in Karachi on charges of 'blasphemy', for allegedly disrespecting the Holy Quran.
The residents of the city protested demanding the security personnel to hand over the accused woman, and blocked the road outside the police station.
To control the security situation, the police in the area immediately escorted the suspected woman to a safer place, as the mob tried to kill her by setting her on fire midway on the road.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under section 295-B on the complaint of the people.
Police Inspector Ahmed Nawaz while talking to The Express Tribune said that the suspect has been taken into custody and investigation is on.
"We have also recovered the Holy Quran which was allegedly burnt," he said.
When the woman was asked why she disrespected the Holy Quran, she replied: "I am a Jew and Muslims do not like Jews."
Law enforcers said it was too early to say anything about the mental health of the accused.
