Report: Dozens Al-Qaeda affiliates redeployed from Syria to Ukraine

Dozens of militants affiliated with the terrorist organization al-Qaeda were redeployed from the Syria's Idlib province to participate in combat operations on the Kiev side of Ukraine, Al-Alam TV channel reported on Monday, citing sources.

TEHRAN (FNA) - The channel said the move to redeploy the terrorists came from the \Al-Qaeda-faithful group Jabhat al-Nusra.

According to sources, in early October the head of Jabhat al-Nusra, Abu Mohammed al-Jawlani, met with field commanders in the west of Idlib province. Its purpose was to persuade the militants to go to Ukraine.

They said al-Zawalani had promised financial awards to those wishing to join the Ukrainian military. Addressing the terrorists, he also emphasized that all terrorist organizations had "only one common enemy - Russia", adding that for many units in Idlib  immediate re-deployment to Ukraine would be the only chance to escape persecution and death.

According to sources, more than 70 militants have migrated from Idlib to Ukraine in the past two weeks, with the commander of Ajnad al-Kavkaz, known as Abdulhakim Shishani. Sources say that terrorists reach Ukraine via Turkey.

Idlib is the only Syrian region where a large proportion remains in the hands of illegal armed groups, including Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists. In 2017, a de-escalation zone was created where terrorists refusing to lay down their arms moved to eastern Ghouta and the country's southern regions.
