Free Malaysia Today (FMT) Report: Petaling Jaya: A retired Chinese kindergarten teacher known for raising an abandoned Muslim child according to the Islamic faith has received the 2022 Pardana Maulidur Rasool Award.

The award is usually given to Muslims for their contribution to Malaysia, but Chi Hoi Lan managed to receive it for her honesty and was dubbed the "Ibu Sejati-Keluarga Malaysia" icon.

Chi, 83, raised her adopted daughter, Rohana Abdullah, as a Muslim when she was abandoned by her Indonesian mother, at the age of two, in the kindergarten where Chi worked.

In raising Rohana, she realized that race and religion would cause problems and worked hard to ensure that Rohana was never lacking in terms of being a Muslim.

Now her only wish is to get Rohana married before she dies.
