President Hassan Sheikh Mohamed, after visiting the scene, said, "Our children, as well as mothers, ailing fathers, students studying, businessmen struggling with their families' lives, have been killed in the blast.

The first explosion occurred in Mogadishu at a busy site near the Ministry of Education. The second incident also happened at the same place when an ambulance reached there for help and people were helping the victims.

The attack in Mogadishu came on a day when the president, prime minister and other senior officials were meeting to discuss expanded efforts to combat violent extremism.

Although no one immediately claimed the attack, the al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab group carried out the attack, which often targets the capital, according to the Iran press.

The president said the number of victims could rise further. He has directed to provide immediate medical aid to the injured as the condition of some of them is very critical.
