ISTANBUL, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Turkish police on Wednesday detained Turkish Medical Association (TTB) chief Sebnem Korur Fincanci for allegedly "spreading terrorist group propaganda", According to TTB and state media.

State-owned Anadolu news agency said an investigation was launched last week into statements made to the media linked to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorist group that commented on alleged chemical weapons use by Turkish armed forces.

The TTB described her arrest as a "political lynching" and said it was the last stage of pressure applied by authorities on the medical group and its leaders. TTB demanded that she be released immediately after her statement is taken.

President Tayyip Erdogan told reporters last week that the armed forces never used chemical weapons and that legal action would be taken against anyone making such allegations.

The comments of President came after a video published by media close to the PKK said chemical weapons were being used by Turkish forces against the PKK in northern Iraq.

The PKK launched an insurgency against the Turkish state in 1984, in which more than 40,000 people were killed. It was designated a terrorist group by Turkey, the European Union and the United States.
