Washington, DC The White House on Monday condemned the actions of Iranian security forces against peaceful protests in Iran. White House Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre said

"We are concerned by reports of violence and mass arrests by security officials against peaceful protests at university students," she told reporters traveling with President Joe Biden.

The protests are in response to the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini two weeks ago, who was beaten up by security forces for wearing an "inappropriate" hijab.

Jean-Pierre said university students in Iran are "extremely outraged" by his death and that such actions are incidents that prompt young people in Iran to leave the country to seek their dignity and opportunities elsewhere.
