Baghdad: More than twenty people, including the head of Iraq's Civil Defense Directorate, were injured when a commercial building in Baghdad caught fire and collapsed on Sunday, officials and the state news agency reported.
Iraq's official news agency said the Director of Civil Defense, Major General Kadim Bohan, and some firefighters were also injured in the collapse of a burning building.
Brigadier General Kusai Yunus, told The Associated Press that at least 28 people were injured. There is no news of any death in this accident. And why the fire started is also not known.
Civil defense announced late evening Sunday that the fire had been completely extinguished and a search was on for the missing at the scene.
Just a week earlier on 29 October, a gas tanker exploded near a football field in northeastern Baghdad, killing nine people and injuring 10 others. An investigation committee had found the explosion to be an accident. This type of security shortage is common in Iraq.
