SHAHJAHANPUR (UP) INDIA : Police have registered an FIR against 18 named and 300 unidentified people for rioting after a copy of Quran was found burnt in a mosque here. Police have started investigations  in the matter.

On Wednesday, a large number of people gathered in the mosque and protested after the Quran was burnt.

With the help of CCTV footage, the police have arrested a man named Taj Mohammad.

Superintendent of Police S Anand told to  PTI that when the police reached there, the protesters were raising slogans and set banners and posters present in the area on fire.

Due to fearing of the protesters, shopkeepers in the area downed their shutters and residents closed their doors and ran to safety, obstructing government work.

VHP leader Rajesh Awasthi had on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police, seeking action under the Gangster Act and the National Security Act (NSA) against those trying to disturb the peace over the incident.
