Terrorists killed five people in a shootout in Iran's Khuzestan province.

TEHRAN, Nov. 16 (MNA) – Unknown gunman opened fire at people and law enforcement forces in the town of Izeh, in Iran’s southwestern province of Khuzestan on Wednesday night.


According to state media, five people have died, including (a child, a woman and three men). ISNA said those killed included two members of Iran's volunteer Basij militia.

Iran's state TV said 15 other people were also wounded in the attack at a market in the city of Ejeh. The semi-official ISNA news agency said two gunmen in a car opened fire on the people.

The attack, which took place in Iran's southwestern province of Khuzestan, has been described by state media as a terrorist attack.

The source said that after the counter-revolutionary groups called upon people to take to the streets, the terrorists misused that opportunity and carried out the terror attack in the city of Ijeh.

Khuzestan Governorate's deputy security official said the assailants came on two motorcycles, who opened fire on people in the evening using military weapons, killing 5 people.

He also said that several police officers were also injured in the firing, the condition of some of the injured is critical.

Last month on October 26, the Islamic State claimed responsibility for an attack on a shrine in the Iranian city of Shiraz that killed 15 people, including women and children, and injured dozens.
