An eight-year-old Muslim kid has been arrested by the police on charges of communal violence in Siwan, Bihar.

According to media reports, the Siwan police have registered an FIR against 25 Muslims and 10 Hindus in connection with the incident and have also detained 20 people.

On 10 September, communal violence erupted in the city during a Mahavir Akhara procession in which a 70-year-old man and an eight-year-old Muslim minor were arrested.

Speaking to The Wire, a resident said, the procession, which passed near a mosque, vandalized some shops in the area with sticks and raised slogans that hurt communal sentiments. He did the same with the mosque. After this stone pelting started from both the sides. Stone pelting reportedly took place in the Purani Bazar area of Barharia.

According to a report in Maktoob Media, 70-year-old Mohammad Yasin and his eight-year-old grandson Rizwan Qureshi were taken into custody by the police, although the family maintains that they are both innocent. The report said that Yasin recently had two surgeries and is also suffering from other health problems.

According to his family, he was booked for inciting violence and kept in custody.

Rizwan's brother Azhar has told Maktoob Media that, "My younger brother was kept in a private ward and my family was not allowed to meet him. The child was so much that he could not even recognize his mother. was."

The report further states that Rizwan's family has produced the birth certificate of the child but the police officers are demanding money for his release.
