After one year of deadlock in Iraq, finally the new President and Prime Minister were elected.

 

The new President of Iraq Abdul Latif became the 9th President of Iraq, Rashid was a veteran Kurdish politician and also the former Minister of Water Resources from September 2003 to December 2010.

Despite rocket attacks on Baghdad's green zone yesterday, Iraqi lawmakers on Thursday elected a new president, swiftly choosing a prime minister hoping to end a year of political deadlock and violence in the war-torn nation.

Abdul Latif Rashid, a 78-year-old was elected as head of state, replacing Barham Saleh, 

An assembly official said Rashid got over 160 votes, while Barham Saleh got only 99 votes.

The new president first named Shia politician Mohammed Shia al-Sudani as prime minister, He get task with reconciling feudal Shiite factions and forming a government in Iraq a year after the last election.
