Lack of Masjid for Muslims in France: in everyday consequence

Paris, France: The Great Mosque of Paris or the Paris Central Mosque is the most visited mosque in France. Its construction began in 1922, intended to thank Muslim soldiers who fought for France in World War I. At that time, the state financed the construction of the building. But a century later, the context is completely different. Funding for mosque construction in France today may prove to be a challenge.

The Central Mosque of Paris is the oldest, as well as the largest mosque in France. The Hispano-Moresque building consists of a 33-metre-high minaret, intricately decorated Prayer rooms with intricate decorations, no words here to mention the splendid gardens. We look back and see how this influential European project came to utilization.

Despite the symbolism of this great mosque, the construction of mosques for Muslims in France remains a dilemma. There is a great shortage of mosques in France, as projects for the expansion or construction of mosques are mostly rejected by the authorities, citing administrative or funding concerns.
