Riyadh : Nearly 12,500 people have been arrested and more than 250 people killed since protests start across Iran following the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody , according to a leading human rights group.
The Guardian newspaper reported on Friday that the families of those detained were struggling to meet their loved ones, with no information available.
According to the Center for Human Rights in Iran, about 3,000 people have been arrested in Tehran province, 835 of whom are in prison, including 200 university students.
Iranian human rights news website HRANA said 12,450 people were arrested during the ongoing protests. In particular, those journalists are being arrested who report in favor of people being detained and protesting. The International Federation of Journalists said that 24 journalists have been arrested so far.
Meanwhile, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Major General Hossein Salami, believes that the security forces will end the few remaining protests very soon. General Hossein said, 'Treason is in its last moments. However, the protesters have vowed to defy the authorities and continue their protest.
